“It was the age of wisdom, but also the age of foolishness, the age of faith, but also the age of distrust. It was the season of light, but also the season of darkness, the spring of hope, but also the winter of despair.

We had everything, but we had nothing.”

The industrialization period, when change and chaos were intertwined, was very similar to the present. The performance based on the space of a winter mental hospital, attempts to examine the present by projecting the two eras through the characters and ghosts. It also attempts to convey what kind of meaning and questions <A Christmas Carol> can give to modern people.

Introduction

Introduction

This performance attempts to reinterpret the Scrooge story through the setting of a psychiatric ward patient. It aims to combine the patients’ self-defensive behaviors with modern dance, magic, and techniques from various genres. It also recreates the moments when Scrooge’s past and future are connected more naturally, with fantasy and reality mixed in the space of the psychiatric ward.

What they see is invisible to others, and the fact that things that exist outside are not connected to them is expressed through a performance combining mime, dance, magic, and juggling.

Furthermore, through the process of replacing Scrooge’s loneliness and isolation in the novel with image-centered nonverbal theater, it aims to experiment with a new stage language and find the fun of watching the play.
